Main raw material for positive electrode material, which is the core material for secondary batteries.

Precursors are the key raw material for producing positive electrode material, which is crucial for secondary batteries. The precursor, when combined with lithium, forms the positive electrode material, with the precursor making up the majority of this material.

To produce 1 ton of positive electrode material, about 1 ton of precursor is required. The favorable business environment both domestically and internationally is expected to help Korea Zinc quickly establish itself in the precursor market and secure a competitive advantage. This supportive environment will not only enhance the company's competitiveness but also contribute to the nation's competitiveness in industries like secondary batteries and electric vehicles.

Competitiveness

Metal sourcing is possible based on the network with global resource companies.

Korea Zinc's technological expertise in extracting anode materials such as nickel and nickel cobalt is expected to play a key role in the rapidly securing competitiveness in the precursor industry.

  • Metal Supply Stability

    • It offers stable Ni supply through the subsidiary KEMCO.
    • It discovered additional Ni metal sourcing channels based on the trust established in the long-term business relationship with global resource companies.
  • Excellent Quality

    • High-density/high-efficiency NCM precursor (high Ni system) can be produced by controlling particle size, grain shape, fineness, and particle size distribution based on the world's best leaching and purification technology.
  • Technological Efficiency

    • Mass production is possible by operating a large-capacity tank and possessing design capabilities.
    • Labor cost reduction is expected because nickel sulfate crystallization process and redissolution process are not required when jointly entering with a recycling factory.
In addition, by establishing a joint venture with LG Chem, the parent company of LG Energy Solutions, the world's largest electric vehicle battery manufacturer, Korea Zinc will lay the foundation for a new leap forward as a precursor manufacturer.
